June 26, 2025, Xiaomi launched the YU7 in the Chinese EV market for SUV to compete with Tesla Model Y. Images of the YU7 shows it looks like a Ferrari but its price is much lower. In fact is lower than a Tesla Model Y. Based on https://www.mi.com/global/discover/article?id=5174, YU7 comes in three variants. Standard starts at RMB 253,500. YU7 Pro with ultra long range AWD is RMB 279,900. And YU7 MAX ultra long range performance AWD is 329,900.
Its windshield is supposed to have SPF100 sun protection, features triple silver coating. The panoramic roof has dual silver coating. Windows have double laminated sun protective glass. The Max edition has smart-timing EC panoramic sunroof to increate head and sunblock protection to next level.
The Max accelerates 0-100km/h in 3.23s. ( 2.98s exclude 1 foot rollout).
For range, standard has 96.3 kWh battery and goes 835km CLTC range, AWD has 96.3 kWh battery and gets to 770km CLTC range, MAX has 101.7 kWh battery and goes 760km CTLC range. All uses 800V silicon carbide platform. It can charge up to 5.2C. Charging from 10-80% takes under 12 minutes. 620km takes only 15 minutes to charge.
For ADAS, entire lineup uses 4nm Nvida Drive AGX Thor with 700 TOPS, and includes LiDAR, 4D mmWave radar and 11 video cameras and 12 ultrasonic radar. 7 of the cameras has ALD coating to reduce glare and backlight interference. The Xiaomi’s end to end asisted driving system was trained by 10 million training video clips from professional drivers. To continue to advance its ADAS they have agreements with Tsinghua University and University of Hong Kong to continue research. Having this sensor suite on all its YU7s is a bold move to build a large fleet to provide training data. It increases cost up front but allows the fleet to capture unusual driving scenarios to trains the driving AI system. This is same playbook Tesla used. All Tesla cars wether customer purchased or not FSD includes the full self driving computer and camera suit.
Xiaomi YU7 is a competitive product and is priced aggressively for all this content. The company’s marketing and engineering teams have done their homework. They noted what features customers want, UV protection, more range, safety, ADAS and great styling. It’s no wonder that within minutes orders open it collected over 200,000 orders.
The Tesla Model Y has a new competitor.
