Tesla Model S Plaid takes Nurburgring production EV record 7:25.231

Official Tesla twitter account reported on June 3 that their Tesla Model S Plaid have taken the Nurburgring production EV record with time of 7:25.231. That is an improvement of 8 seconds over the previous record.

From official Nurburgring website:

According to Tesla’s tweet, their test car had the Track Package installed which owners can also purchase for $20,000. The track package unlocks the top speed to 200mph. That speed requires strong brakes and the Track Package uses rotors with continuous-fiber with custom 3D matrix and is said to increase strength and improve heat management. The carbon-silicon carbide rotor also include a durable ceramic surface coating for improved wear, corrosion resistance and lower brake dust. Rotor dimensions are 410x40mm in the front and 410x32mm in the rear. Squeezing the brake pads are 6 pistons one piece forged calipers in the front and 4 pistons one piece forged calipers in the back. Tires are also upgraded with the front using Goodyear Supercar 3R 285/35R20 in the front and 305/30R20 in the back. The Tesla website noted that these tires should not be used in the winter or when temperature drops to 40F/5C. The package also includes 20×10 J Zero G wheels int eh front and 20x11J Zero-G wheels in the back.

Majority of consumers will not need this level of performance and is definitely overkill as a regular commute vehicle. This is a demonstration of the capabilities of the EV and reaffirms Tesla leadership standing in the automotive industry.
