The EPA website lists a new Tesla Model Y AWD with a range of 279 miles. It has a MPGe rating of an easy to remember 123 eMPG. As inflation hit US and Europe, consumers face higher interest rates. Affordability may limit the number of people who can afford a Tesla EV. In the US, the Tesla Model Y Long Range starts at $65,990 at the time of this writing. There is a possibility that this model will use the new and more efficient 4680 form factor cell that also serves as structural support. The combined effect of using less batteries, more efficient 4680, and reduced build time using front and back Giga Press section can help introduce a Model Y with a lower price tag than $65k. The 279 miles range is a sweet spot as Tesla has already been selling the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range with 267 miles range.
